Mission and Castro
Dense, on foot, decided in seconds. Hours and recent photos matter more than everything else combined.
San Francisco SEO for a single location is a different fight. Your competition has five virtual offices and stock skyline photos. You have one real address, which is an advantage only if the listing proves it.

THE FREE CHECKER, NOT A CONTACT FORM
It reads your live pages and gives you the list in about a minute. No signup, no card, no call. Plenty of San Francisco owners fix it themselves from here and never contact me, which is a fine outcome.
READ THIS ONE AT A TIME
One location competing against the whole city. Scroll and each corridor comes up on its own.
Dense, on foot, decided in seconds. Hours and recent photos matter more than everything else combined.
Office hours only, dead at weekends. Measuring this on a seven day average will mislead you every time.
Neighbourhood loyalty, multilingual search, and far less competition than anywhere east of Twin Peaks.
Visitors and locals sharing a pin. Ranking for tourists while missing the people who would come back is easy to do by accident.
WHAT I CHECK FIRST
Every San Francisco audit starts here, and the order matters. Fixing the third before the first is how money gets wasted.
The primary category, your real hours, the service area, and photographs that look like Valencia St rather than a warehouse in Tracy. This is the cheapest thing on the page to fix and the one that moves the map pack.
Every duplicate that still carries an old phone number or a Daly City address. Correcting the Google listing does not correct the copies, and the copies are what keep contradicting you.
The page title has to name the trade and the city. If the browser tab still says Home, you are not competing for "bakery Mission District" no matter what the rest of the site does.
THE NEXT STEP IS FREE
The scanner runs those same checks against your live pages and gives you the list in about a minute. No signup, no card, and plenty of San Francisco owners fix it themselves from there and never contact me. That is a fine outcome.
Your competition in this city often has five virtual offices and a stock skyline photograph. You have one location. In local search that is an advantage, because Google actively tries to filter the fake ones out, but only if your listing proves you are actually there.
San Francisco behaves like a dozen small towns. The Mission and Castro are dense and decided on foot. SOMA and the Financial District are weekday only and dead at weekends, which will mislead you badly if you measure on a seven day average. Richmond and Sunset are neighborhood loyal, multilingual, and far less contested than anywhere east of Twin Peaks.
Trying to rank city wide is how a small business wastes a year here. Ranking for your neighborhood plus your service is usually winnable, and I will tell you honestly which of those two you are looking at.
Proof of address first: consistent details, real photographs of the real place, and reviews that read like they came from people who walked in. That is what separates you from the multi-pin operators.
Then neighborhood targeting rather than city targeting, and titles that say Mission or Sunset. For the city term itself, if your budget is small, I will say so rather than take the money.
Profile fixes can show in two weeks. Rankings take three months.
There is no version of this where San Francisco rankings move in a fortnight. What moves quickly is the listing, and that is where I start for exactly that reason.THE ONE CLIENT I CAN SHOW
A Bay Area transport company, five months of work, then a deliberate stop to see whether it held. It did, and it is still not page one. Both halves are on the page.

Three hundred dollars a month, cancel whenever you want. That covers the audit, the fix list and the work itself. Web design, Google Ads and photography are quoted separately on their own pages and never bundled in quietly. see the ads page ↗
